Douglas K. McClaine, who also serves on the Compensation Committee of BHS, began his law career with Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA) in 1984 as a patent attorney. He became assistant general counsel and corporate ethics officer in 1990 and was appointed general counsel in 2002. He was elected vice president in 2005. McClaine holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Administration and Management Science from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as a JD from the Dickinson School of Law. He is licensed to practice within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of several bar associations and professional organizations.
Prior to his election as a trustee of Butler Health System, McClain was a director with the Butler Health System Foundation. He was a co-founder of the Allegheny County Mock Trial Program for area high school students and a youth counselor for the Butler Rotary Wheels Juvenile Delinquent Program. He is a past director and treasurer of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association. He has also been a guest speaker and panelist at various seminars on the topics of ethics, litigation, corporate compliance, governance and sexual harassment.
